Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs)

The CDC’s Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) network monitors severe bacterial infections in 10 sites around the US, covering >45 million people. The system produces high-quality data on rates of infections for a number of bacterial infections, including the specific strains causing infection, antimicrobial resistance profiles, and demographics. The system has been in place for >25 years. Methods and surveillance areas for reporting cases has changed over time and should be used with caution.
